1. Single-Purpose Policy & Scope

TrackPricesPro Competitor Link is an e-commerce productivity extension designed for merchants. Its sole, single purpose is to allow verified merchants to link competitor product web pages to their internal merchant product catalog (SKUs) and establish automated price monitoring.

This Privacy Policy governs both the TrackPricesPro Competitor Link Chrome Extension and the TrackPricesPro web dashboard and backend API services.

2. Data Protection Commitments (No Sale or Tracking)

No tracking of browsing history: The extension does NOT passively monitor, track, record, or store your web browsing activity, navigation history, or visited domains.
No sale or monetization of personal data: We do not sell, rent, monetize, or transfer any user data, merchant catalog information, or competitor pricing details to third-party data brokers, advertising networks, or analytics firms.
No user identification or fingerprinting: The extension does not collect advertising identifiers, fingerprint devices, or gather personally identifiable information (PII) beyond the merchant API key entered by the merchant for authentication.

3. Chrome Extension Permissions & Limited Use Disclosure

In accordance with the Google Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, the extension requests the absolute minimum set of technical permissions necessary to function:

activeTab

Justification: Invoked strictly upon the merchant clicking the extension action icon or activating the visual picker. It grants temporary, scoped access to the currently active browser tab to read the product URL, title, and public price elements. No access is granted to inactive tabs, background navigation, or other open windows.

scripting

Justification: Used strictly to inject the interactive in-page visual element picker overlay into the active tab when requested by the merchant. The overlay allows the merchant to hover and select custom price selectors on non-standard competitor storefronts. The script is completely self-contained, runs entirely within the isolated tab context, and is removed immediately upon closing or confirming the picker.

Justification: Used strictly on the local client machine (`chrome.storage.local`) to persist merchant configuration settings (backend API Base URL and secret API Key) and transient catalog SKU lists for auto-completion and instant offline SKU matching.

4. Backend Data Transmission & Merchant Isolation

All backend data transmission occurs over encrypted HTTPS connections (or authenticated local development endpoints) directly to the merchant's configured PriceTracker instance:

Explicit User Action: Data is transmitted to the backend only when the merchant explicitly clicks the "Link to SKU" button, "+ Add My Product" button, or when server-assisted HTML parsing is triggered for complex e-commerce platforms.
Sanitized Payload: When server-side parsing is invoked, the extension sanitizes the DOM HTML locally before transmission, stripping scripts, SVG graphics, audio/video media, and base64 payloads to minimize payload size and preserve privacy.
Tenant Isolation: All SKU mappings, pricing targets, and learned CSS selectors are strictly partitioned by tenant ID using encrypted authentication headers (`X-Api-Key` or session JWTs). No merchant can inspect another merchant's catalog or link targets.

5. Security, Data Retention & Merchant Rights

We implement industry-standard security safeguards to protect merchant data:

All passwords and API keys are stored using cryptographic one-way hashing (BCrypt).
Session authentication utilizes `httpOnly`, `Secure`, `SameSite=Strict` cookies.
Merchants retain complete ownership of their catalog data and can update, unlink, or delete tracked links at any time directly through the dashboard or extension interface.
